Exploring the Dark Web: An Introduction to Forensic Monitoring and Data Security

It was an honor for me to be a guest professor at the University of Economics in Zurich, where I had the opportunity to deliver a speech on online forensic monitoring. I focused on investigations into the dark web and provided students with an introduction to the different layers of the web.

The different layers of the web

The surface web is the most commonly used layer and encompasses all websites accessed through a search engine. The deep web refers to non-indexed content such as databases, private webpages, and other content that requires authentication. Finally, the dark web is a computer network designed to remain anonymous and inaccessible to the public. Criminals often use the dark web to conduct illegal activities such as drug dealing and money laundering.

Research techniques

When conducting research online, it is essential to use various tools and techniques. Therefore, I taught my students how to use search engines to find relevant information and how to use data loss prevention systems to monitor and protect data from theft or data leakage.

Importance of data security

Finally, I discussed the importance of investing in data security. We looked into companies that had been hacked and how their data was sold online. These were great examples to demonstrate the importance of data security for businesses.

Conclusion

My experience as a guest professor at the University of Economics in Zurich was particularly fulfilling. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with the students, and I am hopeful that they found the lecture informative and beneficial.
